Part of the processes of doing the USMLE is doing your Step 2 CS exam, which requires coming to the states, and if you have previously visited the states, or some western country in the past couple of years this kinda makes it easier to get a new visa, as they know that you don't plan to stay in their country after you finish whatever you are going for...
When I applied for my first US visa I had no prior visits to a western country, so I guess this is better, cuz this makes my application process more or less closer to the majority of the people doing the USMLE, although I had a visa to Ireland, yet I didn't go there or use.
the most important thing to do is prepare yourself for everything, and have an answer for every question... and honest answer! when you say the truth, they respect that, and we all know al sedq manjah (aw batekha, hhaha, la ana asdy manjah, men eno bynajy ya3ni). Elmohem so the following documents I have always presented when I went to the embassy, and are also the same documents I presented to the Irish embassy, and with them I got my Irish visa, although it was initially rejected until I sent those documents!
1- First of all you need to call the embassy and set an appointment, don't take an appointment that is a week or 10 days later, because that can be too soon for you to collect all the documents needed. Only do so if you have to travel really soon.
2- Go online, and fill in the application that's on the link they will send you by sms after you set the appointment. PRINT IT USING A LASER PRINTER, if you use a regular inkjet, you will have to do it ALL OVER at the embassy.
3- Get recent photos, you go to a Kodak store, and tell them soret vizet amreka, 5x5 khalfya beda, they know it, but stress it! it has to be something within the last 6 months, so just get new ones.
4- Proof of your exam... don't set an appointment at the embassy until you get the letter from the ECFMG that you have an exam, also take along with you the appointment you set for you exam, and a print out of it!
5- Proof of financial sufficiency, that u can support yourself, I took bank statements from my dad's, mom's, and my accounts, like 2 or 3 bank accounts for each parent, and mine, and my visa card statements, lots of stuff to show that u have money, and that u spend money! also I took a print out of the page in oasis that show how much u paid for the exams so far, so if u took step 1 and 2 for example, u then paid $1600 and add to that also the CS will be listed, so that's like $2800 in total, so this show that u don?t need cash from someone! (el cash cash rabena tab3an, kolo men fadl Allah)
6- Contacts in the states, ok, this might not be easy for everyone, but if u have anyone u know in the states, and can put their info that helps, even if u wont be staying with them!
7- If u r gonna stay with ppl u know, put that address, if not, and u made hotel reservation, then also put that.
8- If u have step 1 and 2 scores, take them with u!!!!! this shows u passed them, and u r going to take an exam u r serious about!
9- If u work, put that down, if u don't, do something with urself, even if its a rotation fee ay 7eta fee masr, try to get away from unemployed dee, I only put it when I was applying for the work visa last time, cuz ana ray7 henak ashtaghal, so it doesn't matter if I work or not
10- Weapons training? if u did the army service, put yes, and say in the army, many say no, and they get accepted, but when u r that transparent, they will know ur application is good and u r being honest!
11- I don't need to stress that u have to double check everything, to make sure u didn't type anything wrong, and use CAPS in everything please!
So you are almost ready, you take all this along with ur passport, and about 60LE so that u pay the amount needed for them to mail u ur passport after u get the visa isA! u head to the embassy 30 mins at least b4 ur appointment, u don't need to dress in a special way, ana kont baro7 isA bee sandal wee jeans me2ata3, bas if u wanna go for the doctor look, do that by all means
PS. If u have a passport b4 the one u r going with, and it had any visas on it, take it with u!!!!
When u r talking with the representative, use English, and be polite, but not afraid of anything, la 7aydakhalok gana, wala 7aytala3ok men nar, el maktob 3al gebeen lazem teshofo el 3eeen, wee 3agaaaby....
So they will ask u why do u wanna go, what is the usmle, what is this exam, how long do u plan to stay, the financial proof, the people u know their, how do u know them, if someone is traveling with u, and also they might ask u what will u do if u don't get an interview there or a job, be ready with what u plan to do in Egypt, show them that u r not desperate for going there and don't have anything else to do!
I was asked why I got a visa for Ireland and didn't go for example, and why did I go to Jordan recently! a friend of mine was asked why he went to London, and when he said tourism, and then they asked him when did ur dad died, he said the same dates he went to London, they knew he went for medical reasons, so they denied him the visa just for the fact he lied!!!
I know another guy, he applied, and got rejected cuz he wasn't employed, he went and got a job at a friend's clinic, and applied one month later and got a 5 years visa!!!
Another friend was not employed when he applied, yet the guy told him u look respectable, well presented, and know what u r doing so I will give u a 3 months visa to take ur exam, and when u come and go without breaking ur visa u will get a longer one next time, and it did happen, the next time he got a 5 years visa!!!
So as u all can see, its a matter of preparing ur application, know the answers, and being straight forward and as honest as they come! if u do so, they have no reason to deny u the visa, but if they do, then homa el khasranen, and its not nehayt el 3alam, u can apply again, and get it!
